Everyone likes to tell me how ugly I am. But now I am fashionably ugly. If that didn’t get your attention, nothing will. Bought this piece for events as I occasionally need to step back in time to the 17th or 18th century. I have numerous period clothing for various time periods and this helps to set the right mood depending on the period I need to portray. Well made and does the job nicely.

Photo is deceptive, this is only big enough to cover the chest of a small boy. Think of the mannekin this item is on as representing a small boy of about 8 years old. On a full grown man the ruffled rows don’t come down that far on the chest. From a distance, this gives the general appearance (like most Halloween costumes do) of a period-piece cravat, but up close the ends of the ruffles are serger-stitched and very visibly showing, like the serger stitching on the inside seams that garments off-the-rack look like. This will have limited durability, the material is great in appearance only, just for “show” so to speak. This is not what you would want if you were trying to put together an authentic period costume that someone would have actually worn daily. Since appearance is what was most wanted until my husband and I find something more authentic, this is suitable for now. This was packaged in a clear plastic large envelope with plastic snaps on the flap for enclosure like costume items are, but it was not a flimsy package, the plastic was of nice quality and protected the item during shipping. I don’t believe the item is worth the $15.00 or so I paid for it, but it was worth it only for the sake of not much time to find this style of cravat for an upcoming event it was needed for. If you have time, shop around locally, plan ahead so you don’t pay so much for a “Halloween costume piece”.

This is a dicky-style piece. Used it for a man’s period piece costume under a jacket. Length was perfect. Not too hard to iron.

I bought this with a Revolutionary War soldier’s costume and it looks great. The frills are a little bit of a hassle to get used to, but they compliment the costume great. It closes with velcro in the back of the neck, so it’s easy to adjust.
